Ravel and Unravel
03:02
|
|||
We meet each other by the bay
then stop and watch how waves meet —
they ravel and unravel.
We meet each other the next day
then lie in the park
and watch how cloud shapes
ravel and unravel.
We meet each other at my door
then curl up on the couch
to watch our stories
ravel and unravel.
We lie together on my sheets
that ravel and unravel, as our bodies
ravel and unravel.
We meet each other by the bay
then stop and watch our waves meet —
they ravel and unravel.

Float
02:34
|
|||
Tiny bits of time float;
fragments fall and rise again —
they spin and return.
When you saw the fear in me
everything you’d ever been
returned to haunt us both.
All the voices I’ve used
come back to me in dreams.
All the things I thought I’d left behind
just won’t stay away.
Win or lose can be the same;
hard to extricate yourself
when everything else has changed.

The pebble, here, unnoticed all along.
The day we spent along the beach
and as we slept
and woke and dressed
and ate our toast
and drank our tea
and ran for trains
and gazed at our reflections in dark tunnels
and read the awful news.
The pebble, white, so smooth, innocuous.
A thing to turn and roll,
to warm between your fingers,
in your palm.
The pebble drops.
So sudden are the circles,
widening further.
We never know the cause.

Where It All Begins
02:12
|
|||
This is where it all begins…
(We open on…)
A windswept parking lot;
abandoned trolleys chatter at odd angles.
Meanwhile, out at sea,
a troopship holding several hundred men
receives a sunburst that evaporates.
This is where it all begins…
Nine weary souls revolve outside a church
A footpath full of onlookers,
until the rain comes.
This is where it all begins…

RedAmberGreen
03:25
|

Traffic lights at every intersection flash red, red, green, amber, green, green, red.
Calamity all over town.
Cars bank up. Horns. Some drivers open up their doors to gesticulate
and yell, while others pat the air and say, ‘Calm down, calm down’.
Pedestrians hang back or decide to risk it… run, retreat, while others
on each corner punch the buttons, swear and punch and punch again.
One man amongst the crowd stands out: hair wild, torn T-shirt,
suit pants. He’s laughing, punching the air and cheering chaos on.
Suddenly the lights turn red, amber, green, in the right sequence.
Within two minutes everything is back to normal —
until the laughing man steps out into the traffic’s flow.
Car horns, screeches, swirling panic as he weaves, somehow,
a dancing path, then turns to jeer and sing
‘Another day in paradise, another day in hell.
And what is it to you, People? What is it to you?
Look what I can do, People. Look what I can do.
What am I to you?’
